Well you know me, I get bored really quickly and want to redesign or redecorate all of the time. Scarlett is now almost 4 years old and I was ready to give her room a face lift. I always look around and see what I can reuse and then add touches of personality whereever I can. (Links Below) With her room, we bought a big girl bed, the honey rattan one with a fun two-tone pink bed spread. I wanted to keep the pink tones because I already had curatins and a few pillows that I still loved. I then bought some fun pillows that matched the rainbow decal to pull it all together. A canopy is always a little girls dream touch to a room so I found one on Amazon and put some twinkle lights in it. I bought a brass rod to class things up a bit and then found the cutest rattan mirror at Home Goods.

For her artwork and accessories, I couldn’t find what I wanted int he right colors so I designed a few things. The abstract rainbows were really fun and simple and pulled in the theme without being too matchy. I’m selling them in my Ash + Ivory shop for $4 a print so head over there and download them! I bought a few things from target like the bird stature and the white houses. I kept her little unicorn head that I had purchased from Target years ago ( I think they still carry it), and then found this old bench I used to have when I was little. We painted it white and then put my cute targert pillows on them and the room was complete! I love how it turned out and I didn’t have to spend a fortune to switch it up.

Bed: World Market

Canopy: Amazon

Blanket, gold basket, rattan mirror: Home Goods

Rainbow Decal: Loomwell

Curtains & Velvet pillow: West Elm

Curtain Rod and rings: Amazon

Art Prints: Rainbows

Jesus Print (free)

Unicorn Head: Target

Seashell pillow: Aliexpress

Yellow blanket: Target

This branding project was for a interior design studio in NYC. She was very specific (which helps me a ton), with what she wanted so I feel like we came to a great final solution for her and her brand. She had a color palette in mind and wanted to keep the brand very classic and simple with a mix of a stylized font and a clean modern font.

When working with a designer, make sure to have some inspiration and ideas of what you DO like before you start the process. There is nothing more painful and more expensive than not being prepared when working on your logo. Some people say, “I’ll know when I see it,”. The only problem with this thinking is that you will go through so many more options which equal more money, before you figure out what you like and don’t like. However, I do think options are important. I like to give my clients at least three options per round within the parameters they have outlined for me.

As a designer, it is important for me to steer the project since the client has probably never done branding before. How I do this is by sending a questionaire before we get started with questions like,

What are you expecting to see? (handwritten, texture, watercolor..)

What are three words that describe your business?

By asking these types of questions, I can narrow down styles, fonts and colors that are fitting options for the project rather than just using my own idea of what it should be.

Feel free to ask any branding questions below and I would love to give you more feedback!

I have had so much fun decorating for the holidays this year and wanted to share some of my fun creations. I love the Hearth and Hand collection at Target and so I bought some of the items to give my Christmas an update from past years as well as used their style as inspiration. The black fram glass lantern, the ribbon and the plaid gift bags were some of their items. I put a tree in a box to give it height so my baby girl wouldn’t destroy my tree but also to give it some height and abit of a rustic feel. I wanted my color palette to be simple and clean with lots of white and some gold and silver. I also added the pink and black and white just to give it some zip and a modern detail. I use lots of black in my home so I thought it would pull in my everyday items.

As far as life goes, I have never been happier. My baby girl is somewhat sleeping through the night and she is so happy and fun! The holidays always make me happy with all of the festivities and family around to enjoy. I made our Christmas cards and neighbour treats this year and have almost completed my Chrismtas shopping. Life is good at the Kizerian home.

Tree, mini bottle trees, frosted garland: walmart

Tree box: vintage

Lantern, ribbon, wrapping: Target

Woodcut star: TJ maxx

Green Wreath and garland: Gatehouse

Frosted wreath: Taipan Trading

I LOVE Christmas time and since I’m home so much and working around Scarlett’s naps, I get bored so all I want to do is decorate. I wanted to do Scarlett’s room because I feel like there are so many simple ideas you can do to spice up a room with most of the items you already have plus some cute additions and details.

For the crib I just used a pretty silver tree branch from Home Goods and put my most favourite target ribbon that I am so obsessed with on it. I then added a little piece of string and clipped all of my Parabo Press pics to it. If you haven’t noticed, that is my thing this year. I love the square prints they offer and I used them in several ways this christmas. This is not a sponsored post, I just love them so much I wanted to let you know my deep LOVE for printed goods and how they spice up any decor.

For her changing table (which she never uses cause she wiggles around so much she would fall off), I put a little mexican nativity my husband bought me on our honeymoon. I used paper cut snowflakes which I cut with my silhouette cameo machine and then just used everyday items for the rest of the table.

My overall style was the blush, black and cream plaid style this year and I love it. The Hearth and Hand collection at Target is killing me! I can’t stop buying stuff (which I’m sure my husband just loves haha). If you have a chance check it out, you will love everything! I am going to post my main Christmas soon so keep an eye out. Merry Christmas!

Target: Ribbon, pink ribbon, tiny pasel ornaments, stocking holder houses, stocking, plaid bag

Lamb rocker: Macey’s Grocery store ( I saw it above the meat section! haahaaaaa)

Mini Tree: Walmart (only 10 dollars) in store similar

This post has taken me forever because I took forever to finish this room! Haha. It was a big project for me with everything going on with my family and myself but I am so glad I got it done just in time for the holidays. As you know, I am a sale shopper so most of what I have in here is a good deal. I loved this rug so that was the first thing I purchased from RUGSUSA, it had so many fun colors and it was really soft for Scarlett to play on so I thought it was the perfect choice for us. I pulled out the navy and mustard yellow for the pillows to add more color to the sectional and then used fun neutral accents for accessories.

I then busted out my own simple version of an IKEA HACK with the white cabinets and the fancy brass bar pulls and voila! I have a nice looking tv console.

I tried to put links to everything so you could check it out. Enjoy!

Couch: West Elm

Pillows: Ash + Ivory (custom)

Mustard Blanket: Target similar

Leather Ottoman: Thrifted

Wooden Tray with Copper Handles: Crate & Barrel

White TV console: Ikea we bought two of the smaller BESTA matte whites and connected them. Then I added bronze handles to make it look higher end.

Gold Handles: houzz Atlas

Fig Tree: Sun River Garden

Basket: Target similar

Rug: RugsUSA

Accessories: target, home goods, TJ Maxx

After a month, I finally got her nursery finished…she did come two weeks early and apparently I decided to procrastinate until the last minute. Anywho, I decided to do her nursery gray and white with pink and shades of blue. It’s kind of hard to tell but the velvet bench is dusty blue which matches the minted prints above her bed. I figured doing neutrals would give me a head start for my next child in case its a boy.

I started designing by choosing the pretty prints from Minted.com. I wanted color and a modern touch so it took me a while to choose them since they have so many options. I chose the “Rose Sil Vous Plait” because it means “Pink Please” in french and I love pink and I know Scarlett does too :). I paired it with a modern painting to bring in some color and movement, and it freed me up to use tons of different shades of pink and blue since it is hard to find exact matches when you are shopping at different stores. I chose the natural wood frames to add a soft touch to the room and I incorporated that through the table lamp, and the fur stool as well as the legs of the crib.

Finding furniture that was affordable was WAY harder than I thought. I always design on a tight budget but I needed quality so these items could last longer. I think I found that with most of the furniture aside from the changing table. I think it looks great but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are restricted with size like I was.

The gray swivel rocker from Babies R Us, was a must for me. I really wanted something comfortable and of course able to last the test of all my children so it was the largest purchase for her room. And my other biggest must have was the blush velvet curtains from West Elm. I can’t even tell you what I went through to get those, back orders, phone calls and blaa blaa the longest story ever but I got them and they are dreamy.

For the accessories, I wanted a random mix of items that were special gifts given to her like the cool classic children’s books as well as fun things like the pillow on the rocker that says “good morning gorgeous” to add unique touches and some fun, since everything is mostly neutral.

Overall I wanted her nursery to be very comfortable and bright. I wanted it to feel clean and simple and be a calming place for us to be together and I am very happy with how it turned out.

Ok so I have had my office in my new house for a year and a half and still never decorated it. You would think it would be the first room to decorate because I practically live in there but nope, it took a bun in the oven to light my fire and get it done. At first I really had no idea what I wanted to do but I did know I wanted lots of light, simplicity and plants and so I went a little more boho with a few fashion accents and this is what I got. Since I am going to have my baby in two months, my clients will most likely be coming to my home so I thought the grey velvet sofa was a must. I really don’t love my carpet so I went with layering a few rugs which also brought in some good texture and pattern. For color, I decided on this burnt red-orange color and pops of green to not be too black and white, since I always tend to go that direction and if I want to change anything up, its super easy.

The artwork I chose was really fun to pick out. First the large plant print was done by Parabo Press who was really easy to work with, it literally is done on your phone through the app. They do large prints as well as small ones or even photobooks, and they are really affordable. Then above my ikea desk is a twenty-sixteen calendar I designed real quick which is a freebie above and below, a Heidi Swapp light box and one of my etsy shop horoscope prints with gold foil. The last piece of art is the fashion print sold at rifle paper company.

The great thing about this room was that I was able to reuse a ton of stuff I already had to fill it like the hats, velvet sofa (I bought when we first got married), some of the pillows and the Ivory rug. I think when you purchase home decor items, it’s important to get things that are very versatile so you can use them over and over again and truly get the most from the money spent.

I love the contrast between these two patterns and how well they go together. You don’t have to match perfectly when choosing pillows, variety and a bit of randomness sometimes makes your couch or bed look best. I think the reason they work is because one is mostly dark with splashes of color, and one is mostly white with a more organized diamond shape. You could pull in accents of blush or mustard yellow or even things out with a grey or tan small patterned or solid pillow.

015626-c89d7fe4-b60b-4e4a-b32f-c8df87cd2360

I put this same pillow in a really monocromatic setting to show you a simpler way to use this pattern as the focal point. Pairing with the two neutral colored pillows but in different scales of pattern still add interest as well as give you some energy to your room. I then added a fun mix of artwork with the photograph, charcoal sketch and pulled in the blue with the ocean painting.

031500-04415ff2-704c-45a6-a25e-fa90fda743b3

I am a sucker for black and white so the simple “x” pattern was perfect for this display. If you are going to do dark curtains make sure you have a good amount of contrast on the walls but don’t forget to pull in the darkness with accessories and accents around the room. I would put two dark chairs and a light side table or a tan leather couch with dark and light pillow, maybe have one or two of them in this same pattern.

200106-72e0dded-804a-4d33-9506-f3c608cebcfb

I love so many things about these two images. The brush lettering is really in right now and it brings a touch of moderness to this room. I chose to pair it with the floral watercolor because it adds some complexity and softness without being too contrasting and unbalanced.

005616-d314d5e2-3c29-45bb-bf99-472e0f4e7998

I thought this mix was really fun because it puts two cute patterns together in a pretty neutral way. A good tip for pillows is mixing sizes of patterns, if you have too many large patterns it will look like a chaotic mess.

unnamed-1

For tables settings, I think it is fun to incorporate different patterns and colors. Lots of times they are very neutral which of course I love but I am really into black and pink right now so mixing the two adds some fun contrast of modern, soft and fun to the table.

032013-bb33e52d-7b43-46dd-8278-4d9340d01df9

Ever since I got back from Alt Summit I have been so excited about this project I have been working on with Minted.com. This summer they came out with their home decor line of artwork, pillows, curtains, lamps, table runners and napkins as well as fabric orders. I have made a cute little store to showcase my favourite things they have in their shop. Since so many people ask me about how I put things together and choosing color and pattern I thought I would put some fun ideas together to help get you just started.
